Mitch J Posts: 2 Rating: (0)	I need to get the variable for the tool number of the tool currently in the spindle. 840D I am planning on using it to call subprograms. Example: IF(Spindle tool number)= 39THEN BLTOOL39 else BLTOOL40 ENDIF

SteveA Posts: 297 Rating: (42)	A lot depends on whether your machine uses Tool Management. The earlier replies will return the tool record number. Also, P_TOOLP is the programmed tool, which may be different than the actual tool P_TOOLNO. The MPP6 will only work with tool management, and also returns the tool record number. The tool ID used in the T word (with tool management) is $TC_TP2, and needs the record number as an index. So, $TC_TP2[$P_TOOLNO] will return the ID of the active tool. HTH, SteveA

R1 == $TC_MPP6[9998,1] Returned either no value or 0 to the R1 variable. R1 == $TC_TP2[$P_TOOLNO] Returned $P not defined or option not installed. Do I need to call out the variables at the beginning of the sub program? Indeed for systems without tool management the variable for tool in spindle is $P_TOOLNO. For systems with tool management you must use $TC_MPP6[9998,1], but in your example you've made some mistake. The program must be something like this: MSG (" tool measure") stopre R1 =$TC_MPP6[9998,1] ;equal not identically IF R1 == 1 ; R1 not (R1) BLTOOL1 Else GOTOFN10 ENDIF RET N10 IF R1 == 2 BLTOOL2 ELSE GOTOF N20 ENDIF RET N20 Good luck Nit
