Good day, all.

I am trying to upload the hardware and software from a CPU in a factory. This machine was created by an external company, and they are not providing the project backup - So I am attempting to upload using a supplied laptop with TIA installed.

I'm aware that I need to have the exact software on the supplied PG/Laptop as used to create the original software.

I have identified the CPU online:

1511-1 PN

• Fimware V3.0.3
• Created in TIA V18.0.1.0
• I am using TIA V18 on the PG/Laptop to upload. (I think V18.0.1.0 as well.. see screenshot below)

I then created a new blank project, and selected "upload as new project (hardware and software). At first I got an error that I was missing GSD files. I obtained what I think are the correct ones, and tried again. Now there is no more error, but just a warning that says

"...xx cannot be uploaded from the device" .. and that is it, no reason given as to why.

The only thing maybe wrong I can see is that the firmware V3.0.3 is not available to me if I attempt to create a new CPU in the project as a test - only V3.0 (which I think is not a problem)

Am I missing something here? This should be straight forward. I need a full backup as I need to make a small change to the software.

Hi Luke

Is there a direct connection between PLC and PC or are you using any intermediate device? Try establishing a direct connection 

Have you tried disabling any firewall or antivirus of your PC? 

Also, you should take a look at this  FAQ: What options are available in STEP 7 (TIA Portal) for uploading when the project version in the CPU no longer matches the version on your PG/PC?

 Hi there, thanks for your response! I have followed that FAQ and seem to have everything set up correctly.

I have not tried with a direct connection to the PLC, I am going through an ethernet switch due to no open ports on the PLC. Perhaps this is the issue. Production seems unwilling to disconnect other devices to let me get in directly, I will see if I can make a plan with that. Thanks
