There is no best way, just use software and don't forget to use RS232/485 converter because S7-200 ports are RS485 and I'm sure your PC has RS232. This is the only requirement. Everything else - just use the software

I'm not sure, but I think that it will not work as it is not only RS232/485 converter, but it also used for protocol. You need only physical medium converter. You could try offcourse PPI cable, but better go for just plain converter.

Dear nandgate, There are lots of RS-232 to 485 convertrs available in the market. You can purchase the converte which has inbuilt supply from Port self, no need to provide external 24V DC or 5V DC supply. This will be very easiest way and reduces your wirirng. So you can do one thing , you can use USB to RS-232 converter & then connect RS-232 to 485 converet. From this you can test your PC with Modsca to S7-200 PLC.

nandgate Posts: 319 Rating: (9)	We did not find any errors on the PLC side. ( The Modbus communication blocks did not show any error message). The laptop is not having any com port, but we used a USB-Serial Converter. No matter what, the modscan software shows Modbus request timed out message.

If you are using library block then I would request you to please check parity & stop bits for the Com of PC & you have defined in your program. Both should be the same.
