i have an application with 1+3 plc-s, and the plan is to implement one S7-1500 as a gateway, so it communicates with the 3 others (S7 1200 in my test environment) with GET/PUT.

I implemented it first with the "master" and one "slave", with ID #100 and it works like a dream, but however if i try to duplicate the slave plc and add ID #101 for the next one, it will not work, no matter what i try.

If I change the call parameter of Get #101->#100 the PLC with #100 is available and I get the data, but not with #101. I can ping the plc-s so the network side should be fine. I have configured the S7-connections 1 and 2 on the 1500, and set "Active connection establishment" too.

On the TIA V18 Info system it says that the passive end, ie "clients" on my case do not even need the cS7 comms configuration for put / get, but Simatic examples instead make the configuration for the client side too. Do i really need to do it into the client too or not?.

Are there any other possible tricks I should take a look at?.

Maybe next step is to reset all plc-s and start to create new projects to test if there is something wrong.

I have 2 separate projects now, because my project will contain the 1500 and a supplier will deliver the 3 others,and I have no access to their project,so  I wanted to simulate my side beforehand and it seems it was a good idea. The main job for the S7 1500 PLC is to act as a mailbox between our DCS-systems Modbus link and the 3 PLC system on the site.

Some answers:

it is not necessary to program Client and Master, it is enough to program just in one CPU.

Please check if it is possible to use PUT/GET communication!

I will take a look at the documents & projects you linked, many thanks!.

I have 6ES7515-2AN03-0AB0 as the "master" configured so, that it has two different networks, x.x.46.x  on the 1st eth interface of the plc for the Modbus, and x.x.45.x for the PUT / GET on the 2nd eth interface.

PUT/GET is set to "allowed" on all PLC-s, so that is not the problem, and I also forgot to mention that the error from the GET is 0001 which translates as communication problems:

1. Conn description not loaded (loc or rem)
2. Conn interrupted
3. Conn to partner not yet established

I will perhaps make a dummy project with just GET from multiple PLC-s without any other code to clarify if the problem relies somewhere else.

We are getting there, now with 3 1200-s communicate between each other, so it seems that the hw config must be loaded from the SAME project into the active plc and into the inactives too, even when the slaves contain no active code for the PUT/GET.

What i did before was that the 1500 is on the Main-project, and it contains dummy 1200-s to be just able to define the S7_conn_1 etc, and I only downloaded the config from that project to the 1500.

Then I have another project, representing the suppliers plc project, and from this I only downloaded to the 1200-s, but there is  something somewhere that is anyhow needed from the main project.

So now we have to find out how we can make this work, as either of us is not going to mix up the two real life projects, but the hw-s (i suppose the conn_data is wiht the hw) must  be shared somehow.

UPD:

Now it works, the editor window for the connections list on the right hand side on my PC was not shown, and when making the projects the 1st 1200 got the right ID-s for local and for remote end, but on the next ones the ID-s were not similar on both projects.

So it is possible to download the Connection info into the "main" PLC from "main" project, and the connection info into the clients from another project, just make sure the ID-s (and ip-s etc) are exactly the same. Sometimes it is good to came to work on a saturday, no hassle around so you can focus only on the problem at hand.
