Connection Unified Panel Sim and PLC-SIM won't work

Trying to simulate a very simpel counter. But I cant get the simulated Unified Panel to work together with PLC-SIM. There is always this yellow warning sign in the field. When I look in Simatic runtime manager it says: Partly Running. Pretty sure that has to do with it. I don't have an Unified Runtime license yet, can this be the problem? Or can this also work without license for now? See the attached file below, I tried to put all needed information in the picture. Attachment Unified_Connection.JPG (1442 Downloads)

Stefan Arcularius Platinum Expert Joined: 1/21/2013 Last visit: 8/29/2025 Posts: 4087 Rating: (633)	Hi Programmer_Lte, the state "Partly running" shown in SIMATIC Runtime Manager is not related to a missing license. This means your project has caused some errors which prevents the runtime form starting. Mostly this is caused by some compiling issues. To ensure a complete re-compile, delete the folder 'IM\HMI' inside your TIA Portal Project using Windows Explorer. But as far I know, you would need S7-PLCSIM Advanced to connect the WinCC Unified simulation to a simulated PLC. See FAQ 109793854. Kind regards Stefan

But as from TIA V17, simulation will work with PLC-SIM according to Denilson Pegaia. https://support.industry.siemens.com/forum/WW/en/posts/tip-wincc-unified-and-plcsim/262409 I am trying the suggestions I got from the answers. And will post another message later.

Deleting the compile folder and rebuild all, did not give the solution either. The problem still exist. Just a HMI with the yellow triangle, no connection to the PLC.

If this is your first WinCC Unified project you are testing, then please try to simulate a new project with nothing more than a blank screen. This is to ensure your system is able to run a simulation. When this is working, or it's not your first project, please use the RTIL Trace Viewer and filter for severity "Fatal" and "Error". Maybe you will find the cause for the "Partly running" in this way. If not, I suggest creating a new support request. Meanwhile, I have tested the simulation using S7-PLCSIM instead of S7-PLCSIM Advanced and yes, this is possible with V17. To get the HMI connection running, the settings for the PG/PC Interface has to be set to S7ONLINE (STEP 7) --> PLCSIM.TCPIP.1. Kind regards Stefan

When I leave the PLC and HMI empty, runtime manager is green and it says running. So I proceeded adding a tag between the PLC and HMI, but the moment the tag is added to the HMI (And a connection is made from PLC to HMI) the HMI goes to 'partly running' (Also the starting time takes like 2 minutes instead of 10 second). But when looking at the Trace viewer no message is created when downloading or starting the 'partly running' project. So thats a bummer. Maybe its runtime license after all?

Are you connecting HMI tags to PLC tags in the I/O, M, or DB areas? Some connection types only allow non-optimized tags (from experience, not from documentation). Programmer_Lte Joined: 9/7/2022 Last visit: 2/13/2023 Posts: 32 Rating: (5)	Hi, Im testing simulation with a PLC 1516-3 PN/DP and a MTP1200 Unified Comfort. Both in simulation on TIA V17. I have an empty project with one DB in the PLC which contains one tag. The HMI is empty with only one screen which contains one I/O field for testing. The DB is optimized block acces, accesible from OPC UA and accesible via Web server. I do not know how to check if this HMI can work with optimized block acces. But I can test if it will work without optimized acces. Thanks for the reply! I just tested without optimized acces, unfortunately this did not make any difference.

I'm quite sure this is not related to the used communication. I believe the runtime has not yet started communication when the error occurs. Maybe you have some troubles with your installation. Have you already installed update 4 for TIA Portal V17? Kind regards Stefan
