Position or angular encoder which – after power ON – immediately makes available the position of the axis as an absolute actual value. An absolute information is thus available on the momentary angular or linear position at any time. The absolute encoder (also known as "encoder") outputs the information on the position via a parallel or serial transmission process, for example in the dual or gray code.Angular encoders are available as single-turn and multi-turn encoders. The unambiguous range of single-turn encoders is typically one revolution, in the case of multi-turn encoders several revolutions (typical are 4096 revolutions for example).Application: An absolute encoder is used when homing is not possible or not desired. Incremental encoder An incremental encoder (incremental position encoder) is generally a pulse encoder, sin/cos encoder, or resolver. Homing is required to determine the absolute position. 2-the concept of clocked mode and the refrence manual about it . ?? 3-The documentation of Encoder with order number 6FX2001-5QS12 --> see the following links manual in product support: http://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/view/en/19979721 manual in doc on web: http://www.siemens.de/automation/doconweb and then: SINUMERIK and SINAMICS 10/2007 English --> SIMODRIVE Sensor Ciao Jerry |

Dear all I'm not sure if this is still of interest for you. But if you need more detailed informations about how encoders work, you can try this external link: http://www.leinelinde.com/Media/Technical%20information/technical%20info_eng.pdf |
