Hello, I have reached the limit for the HMI connectivity on some project, with 6 HMI touch panels connected via Profinet to one S7-1200 (1214). Of course, six is the largest number reserved for the HMI communication, it is the firmware v3.0. Now, I have to include SCADA WinCC7.2, but I tottally skipped this limitation when I created the solution. For now, I have two questions before I am obligated to buy additional hardware. 1) I have read that with firmware v4.0 I can improve this capacity, using TIA and configuring the device properly. Can I somehow update the firmware version and take that as a Solution? 2) Why does WinCC occupy 2 HMI connectios when the Runtime is started? That way, I have to disconnect 2 touch panels per PLC prior to starting WinCC Runtime in order to reach the PLC from WinCC. The firmware of a 3.0 based PLC can only be upgraded within the FW 3.x range and not to the 4.x range. Different hardware apparently. As to the WinCC runtime occupying 2 slots, good question that I've often thought and did initial research on myself. It seems that when your PC is acting as the HMI, it is talking to the PLC (that's 1) and I don't recall the second but think it is related to the fact you have portal running as a programming device, which takes that 2nd channel. You should contact Siemens via Support Requestfor suggestions beyond just updating the PLC hardware to 4.0. There may be other solutions that for your project that makes more sense. |
