On a project recently developed by myself it was revealed very late in the day that there was a client requirment for a modbus connection. This was revealed a considerable time after the MCCs and hardware had been developed. To avoid the need to change the hardware on the MCCs, it seemed logical to try and put together an interim module local to the third party kit to receive the required MODBUS signals from the 3rd party device and present to the rest of the site via Ethernet. This is to be based on a IM151-8 using a '1 SI Modbus_Master' (6ES7 138_4DF11_Modbus'. Now I find myself in the Modbus Wilderness, having never used modbus before. From the supplier I have a list of Modbus Registers, with no idea how to relate this to anything or read the data ! My thought was to try and use the sample program 'zXX21_11_1SI_Modbus'. This would appear to put the data into an Array ! How this relate to the Modbus List provided? Any pointers, tips or examples would be welcome. I have attached the information supplied by the supply chain. Many thanks in anticipation of some informed knowledge. My little write up is a good starting point in the basics of modbus. https://www.automation.siemens.com/tf/WW/en/Posts/66876#top Once you have a good understanding of the basics then you should read the user manuals for the specific modbus driver that you are using (see links in my writeup). Also do a search for modbus example projects. There are plenty on here. If after all that you are still struggling, ask questions! |
