HI, its just something simple thats been missed it should run at some point. can you tell me if your drives display is flashing or has any numbers like 001 100 104 these are uss protocol error messages 001 is message ok 100 is invalid start character etc theses are listed in the siemens standard drives handbook i think. i have attached it. .i suggest you read through my other posts where tractor suggests that i hardwired the analogue pot inputs. i put a jump lead between terminal 1 and terminal 3 thats p10+v and ain+ and between terminal 2 and terminal 4 thats 0v and ain- inside the drive. set the small switch marked sw1 to V for volts and a jump lead between terminal 7 and 10 thats p15+ and din3 on my drive then i set P053 to 9 which is remote operation via rs485. the format might be sending LSB first and the drive is looking for MSB first. i dont know how the pi sends bytes it might be big endian. or little endian. dont lose heart its just going to take a bit of work. get back to me with what your drive is showing. the display shows many things that dont make sense but they are clues. i will be monitoring all day so i can get back as soon as you respond sorry i dont know python or pi so cant help you there. but i suppose the formatting in the printing might be out sorry the data is not in that book its in one of the obscure drive manuals and i can t find it i have listed hat i printed out 1) the display flashes when a byte is received 2) if '100' flashes continuously on display it indicates a physical termination fault. it happened to me i swapped the rs485 wire around. 001 = message ok 002 = slave address received 100 = invalid start character 101 = timeout 102 = checksum error (BCC) 103 = incorrect message length 104 = parity error you need to set your display parameter P001 to 5 using your drives touch panel (thats for mine which is MM150) Do you have a windows pc? you can start to use a terminal program called YAT2 to connect from the usb via the waveshare convertor. Yat 2 is free software and it allows you to send hex data and see the results links YAT 2 : - https://sourceforge.net/projects/y-a-terminal/ i use these for hex and bin decimal work an XOR calculator:- https://xor.pw/# hex, bin dec octal convertor:- https://www.binaryhexconverter.com/ Oh i forgot something - check your rs485 earth connection. mine was not inserted all the way in the terminal block it took me ages to find problem.
