We have been running a multi-user server for about a year now.

For various reasons, we are now receiving external support, so we need to work with permissions.

Unfortunately, the permission concept of the multi-user server is not really usable, or I haven't found the solution yet.

Maybe someone can help with that?

We have approximately 5 projects on the server and now we want to create permissions as follows:

• AD Group A (or User A) should only have access to Project 1.
• AD Group B should have only access to Projects 1, 2, and 3.
• User D should only have only access to Projects 3 and 4.

"Access" means that permissions should be set up in a way that users cannot see or create a local session for projects they are not authorized to access.

We always have to assign users to the server, and the permissions are then inherited to all projects without warning. Unfortunately, we cannot disable or manage this behavior.

If we assign a user to only one project, they are missing from the "server" and cannot access the server at all.

Unfortunately, there is no permission option for "read-only, no write, and no delete."

The only solution would be to set up a separate server for each project and grant appropriate permissions there. Is there no better solution???

Hello smogporter,

I assume you are still using an old Project Server version < V18.

This requirement was implemented with TIA Project Server V1.0 / V1.1 (version numbering was changed).

It is now possible to assign individual users or user groups to specific projects/groups only. The users can then access the server and only the corresponding projects are displayed.

Users no longer need to be assigned permissions at server level.

Incidentally, an existing server can be "upgraded" to the current version.

This is described in detail in the help chapter "Upgrading the Project Server from versions < V18".
