Problems with SM1231 AI (6ES7 231-4HF30-0XB0)

jftheoret Posts: 32 Rating: (2)	I just received a SM1231 8 AI from a seller. However, when I connect it to my 1214C, power the CPU up and configure it in TIA, I get all red flashing lights (the DIAG and 8 inputs, and the ERR light on the CPU). My CPU is version 2.0.2 if it says anything, and I have TIA v11. When I configure it, I add it to slot 2 (the one next to the CPU), then rebuild all (hardware config and software config) and download all. Any clue if the module is defective, or is it another configuration issue? Thanks.

I just wanted to see if the part I received was OK (as it turns out I was sent a used module). The power needs to be applied on the +L and M on the screw terminals? I thought it was optional and only needed if you are using the current mode. Here is a quote concerning external power to the module: When the inputs are configured for "current" mode, no current will flow through the input unless you supply external power to the module. The part number for the module is6ES7 231-4HF30-0XB0

Even the analog input modules cannot function without 24V. The bus connection between modules is simplya communications bus. There is an example of the various S7-1200 modules in simplistic connections in a CAD drawing. It shows the power connections and is a handy guide.
