I have a machine fitted with a Siemens OP20/240-8 HMI, it appears to have lost it's configuration (battery was flat) and displays the message "Awaiting transfer...".

The unit is fitted with a EPROM module and the EPROM is marked with the machine's serial number, so I am hoping that the configuration is in that EPROM.

But we don't know how to try and load data that maybe on the EPROM.

Does anyone know how to do this please?

Does anyone have a manual for this HMI please?

If you do a search for your OP20/240-8 Panel in the search box at the top right of this page, you will quickly find out that it worked with old (and discontinued) S5 systems. These units were discontinued in 1999, and removed from support in 2005. Almost 20 years ago.

There are few documents left on the Siemens site on these models. This one gives you the part numbers of ancient memory modules that would have been ordered with a OP20/240-8, but that was in 2006...

The software you would have used to do a backup on these operator panels was COM TEXT, the last version of which operated under DOS... Also, a backup of hhis kind cannot be modified, it can only be dowloaded to a panel with hhe exact same part number.

If you are really desperate, you should contact Siemens support using a Support Request, you will find a li k at the very top of this page, but I doubt that literature and software for these units could still be found in the Siemens archives.

The machine builders took the trouble to burn and EPROM for the PLC, which is how I recovered the PLC program.

But the OP20 HMI also appears to have lost it's configuration.  In that unit there is also an EPROM (which passes a self test check-sum? parity?).

In hand writing, written on that EPROM is the serial number of the machine, so I think it's possible that a configuration is held on this EPROM, (as with the PLC).

There are no other mode switches on the OP20, so I suspect there maybe some special key combinations to bring up some sort of system menu.

That's why I want to look in the manual, if anyone has one?
