Ken The Catalogue, in Ordering Data, provides an indication of the Filter CategoryC2 EN61800-3, for the 1stEnvironment, for motor cables lengths less than 5Metres. Motor cables are being fed with Pulse Width Modulated supply contain some high frequencies as a by product of this PWM; cable length is critical as it has a capacity which is ‘leaky’. Assurance from Siemens for EMC compliance becomes uncertain for motor cables greater than 5Metres. These cable’s must be screened and terminated at each end in order to effectively contain the radiated emissions, and carry the high frequency leakage currents back to the inverter drive, from the motor. The link below provides detail regarding the use of circuit breakers which can accommodate the ripple and a level of DC created by the inverter drive as it converts single phase AC to DC. http://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/view/en/49232264 The requirement to contain both the EMC, and provide good earth leakage protection is clearly a fine balance.
