Is Redundancy Possible in S71200

SPV Experienced Member Joined: 6/28/2007 Last visit: 12/13/2023 Posts: 61 Rating: (4)	Hi All, I dont know is it Silly to ask this question coz i have not worked much on S71200's But is it possible to configure Software Rendundancy between 2 S71200 PLC's ? I probably got this doubt and am asking this question is why because the S71200 also has similar blocks as that in other CPU's like OB1,OB100 etc..And also an S71200 has an interface of ehternet. So i hope must be possible to configure the Redundant Profinet IM to these CPU and the configure the Software in both the CPU and establish redundancy. All my fellow Forum Member please enlighten me if this is possible or not. If so the 1200's Can be very effectively used in Smaller Systems where in more reliablity would be required such as RTU,RCP etc....

Darius Platinum Member Joined: 9/28/2005 Last visit: 11/5/2024 Posts: 2957 Rating: (242)	Hello, As I know it is not possible. Software redundancy possible only on S7-300 and S7-400 series and hardware redundancy only on S7-400 series. S7-200 and S7-1200 does not support any kind of redundancy.

The S7-1200 doesn't work (at least yet) with decentral periphery. As already sad, the product doesn’t support this family of the PLC.However, this doesn’t means that you could not develop some time of data synchronization to between two (or more) CPU, probably through TCP, in user program, and makes some time of redundancy of the IOs.

Or would one PLC be user programmed as a standby, monitoring the other PLC for errors to take over? I would appreciate it if you could elaborate on these scenarios a little bit. Thank you.

So they could "sincronize" they datas. What you do with this "shared" information, it is a question for the user answer. Depending of the processto be autoamtizate, it is interesting that the program run "parallel", depending of the process could one CPU stay in "stand by" mode.

Hi! I need a solution with S7-1200 to achieve redundancy . The I/O count is around 20 DI ; 10 DO ; 12 AI & 4 AO. I understand for AI & DI you can use relay & splitters to split the signal . But for DO & AO what is the exact solution? I am not expert in siemens but probably S7-1200 with IM module ET200SP as IO node is possible , in such a scenario , what can be done to achieve some sort of a working & proven redundancy even if it is a parallel type. How can SCADA (Wincc advanced in that case will communicate with both the PLC S7-1200) . Both CPU's will have different IP address in this case & IP will not swap also. Please help with a solution.

Sure, you can make believe by having a LOT of hardware installed and doubling up the Inputs to 2 s7-1200 PLCs, connect dig out's from both PLCs to relays or SSR's, but when you want the system to automatically fail-over and have a single "shared" IP address, you will fall well short. For example, HMI connection to an s7-1200 will not work when it fails. A 2nd s7-1200 will not automatically pick up the connection needs of the HMI.
