For a specific project, my customer requires the use of non-Siemens asynchronous motors and servo-motors.
There specification is clearly mentioning that all motors must be from SEW, and nothing else.

Nevertheless, they did not specify the brand for the drives architecture, so I asked them if it would be acceptable to use Siemens S120 drives. They agreed.

I know that this is totally fine to use third-parties asynchronous motors with Siemens S120 drive components, but I have no idea if it is also possible for servo-motors.

The Servo-motors will controlled by Technology Objects "Positioning_Axis", using Telegram 105 or 106. The intended Safety Integrated will be SS1E through Profisafe.

Is it possible ? If Yes, is there anything I must be aware of, I must know before going through this road ? What about the cables and terminals that must be used for that ?

Yes, you can use third party motors with SINAMICS S120. The last time I used the S120 I had to control four linear motors.

Presumably the motor manufacturer can provide the motor data that you need to configure within the S120. However, you will need to connect the encoder, which may require additional hardware.

It does not matter how you control the motor later, but for safety features you will need a safe encoder signal.

I would recommend that you contact your local Siemens technical consulting to clarify the details.

thank you for your reply.

For the encoders, you mean that I will not be able to find DriveCliq encoders with third-party servomotors ? So, it will be necessery to use SMC20-30 ?

For the Safety, as long as I want to use SSI-External, so only STO from the drive itself, are you sure  that it is required to use a safety compliant encoder ?

I will definitely contact my Siemens drives representative prior to proceed, but I wanted to know more about the subject, to see if it's the way to go.
