Hi I have a problem with accessing a Micromaster 440, part # 6SE6440-2UE17-5CA1, trying to access it via  RS485- USB interface via Siemens STARTER V5.4.2.1.

I cannot access  the VFD as a slave/node (see error attached) , just does not pick it up, any help/ guide can be of use.

Hello,

In RS-485 communication power supply must be available using pull up/pull down resistors. Please check if these resistors are connected so that RS485 communication can be active. Please refer 6SE6400-5AW00-0BP0  for more details.

Further to previous comments:

If using a USB to R/S 485 converter, these converters do no always work, try a PC with a serial port if you have one about.

Ensure the VSD baud and STARTER baud are the same.

Disconnect and start again often works, but I am sure you have done this.

4.1      ONLINE settings bus type USS (MICROMASTER 4, SINAMICS G110)

Select bus type USS in the STARTER menuOptions ->Set PG/PC interface. Changes will take effect on completing this dialog.It is recommended that the baud rate be set as high as possible in order to achieve a high communication performance.

ForUSS bus operation, a RS232 to RS485 converter is required. It is recommended that this converter should have electrical isolation and be capable of operating at a minimum of 9600 Baud.

If your PC/PG only has USB interfaces instead of the RS232 interface, you can use standard USB<->RS232 adapters. Please make sure that you use up-to-date drivers from the respective manufacturers. The following adapters are used for testing:

• Conrad USB modem adapter, order no. 98 24 17 (www.conrad.de)
• Roline USB to serial 9-pin converter, order no. 12.02.1086; (www.roline.com)
• SITECOM USB serial cable CN-104 - USB to serial; (www.sitecom.com)
