MultiRanger 100, if liquid being pumped the level jumps up to 90%

Hi,

I have an issue with the MultiRanger 100 too. I have a pump pumping liquid into the top of a tank. When the pump is not running the level reading is accurate. Once the liquid is being pumped in to the tank the level jumps up to ~90% as if the sensor is picking up the flow of the liquid in to the tank.

The sensor is located at least 2 meters away from the location of the pipe. Is it possible to reduce the width of the scanning area so that the sensor does not pick up the flow in to the tank and only sense liquid directly under it?

Hi,

The beam angle of your sensor can only be slightly changed by changing the ultrasound frequency (P843), but don't expect any miracles from that. By changing this parameter, you will also weaken the transmitted pulses.

More likely when the pump is started, the liquid surface gets turbulent / foamy, which decreases the reflected echo. You could record this by taking echo profiles with Simatic PDM. If there is no any significant reflection detected, possible the transmitter will trigger on a false echo at 90%, which can be caused by e.g. a welding burr or an agitator. If the sensor is mounted too tight in an iron socket, it is not acoustically isolated from the tank, and it's triggered on it's own transmitted pulse.
