romendra Posts: 43 Rating: (1)	Hi, I am using 2 hsc counters on my 1200 plc, hsc 1 and 2. These counters are comparing 4 values for 2 different meters depending on the 4 choices the end user has. They were working fine when tested one at a time.But now the counter value does not stop at the desired pre-set values. I am using compare >= . My question is, is it unwise to use 2 high speed counters on the same plc? Shoud I be using hsc 1 and 3 rather than 2. I do not have anything connected to I0.1 and I0.3. The counter inputs are connected to I0.0 and I0.2?? Any ideas?? Thanks Romendra

I would guess there is a problem with too much time being used during an interrupt called OB, making your interrupt called OBs take too long. Are there periodic OBs being called less than a couple msec? Is it possible there is a common mode or ground reference issue with the two pulse sources? If you look at the signal of both on an o-scope, do they look proper voltages and are they of sufficient voltage at both states (high and low) to trigger the HSCs to count properly? The preset count for each HSC input is calling a unique OB correct? I mean, HSC_1 calls let's say OB201, and HSC_2 calls OB202. Not HSC_1 and HSC_2 call the same OB. How much processing is done in those OBs? It should be very small. Like a move, bool that is set so your main processing OBs can handle any real work during the normal plc scan.

The best you can do is to trigger an interrupt OB to run at your preset value, or use an external input to reset the counter, or something like that. The online help walks through the steps to configure the HSCs.

romendra Posts: 43 Rating: (1)	I am disabling the the actual counter values(ID1000) by latching the input to output. For example, if solenoid A is on, count till 100 and then turn solenoid off. Yet it still keeps on counting. I am goign to look into grounding issue monday.

romendra Posts: 43 Rating: (1)	Ok so today, I disconnected the second HSC input tried to run just a single input and the problem still persists. I did confirm that both the units were grounded properly!! Not sure what the problem is. I am kind of running out of ideas? Any help would be appreciated

What I am asking is what is the difference between say doing a %ID1000 vs %ID1000:P Screenshots of your hardware HSC configuration, and your CTRL_HSC block, and your project tree showing the interrupt OB logic called when the preset for your counter is reached. It may be a small issue of downloading a working sample program and see it run, then add a second HSC and mimic the actions of the sample. From there, small changes to affect how it is needed to run for your project.

But the counter value could be used in 2 different instances right depending upon user selection per say. For example, 1. Enable High speed counter 1 and assign plc tag SampleCounter to %ID1000. 2. If user input is 1, count to ~ 100. 3. If input is not 1, count to ~200 Am i thinking correctly?
