WinCC 7.5 / "A basic application could not be started" message

I get "A basic application could not be started" message, which blocks to proceed further. With a quick check on the forum, I've seen previous posts of similar issues. So, it's better to note that OS is Win10 Pro 20H2 License(s) installed, SQL server is running (seen in services and console, except SQL Server Agent Service which is in manual mode and can be started without any problem), TIA Portal also installed (only advanced, not professional), with no problem, No error in OS log files. It might also be useful to note that my computer is in domain of my company, it gets its IP from server (printscreen of simatic shell is attached) and user is not a local user (instead a domain user with admin rights on this computer). bg2492 Diamond Member Joined: 5/16/2014 Last visit: 9/12/2022 Posts: 7298 Rating: (2172)	Hello CNamruk, do you have really installed WinCC V7.5 (without Servicepack) or maybe with Servicepack 1 or 2 ? The screenshot of the Simatic Shell does not show a project. With WinCC V7.5 Servicepack 2, there is a known problem, if the networkadapter, which is selected for Terminalbus, is not connected to a switch or router. The logged in Windows-User need to be menber of the local Usergroup "SIMATIC_HMI". Note WinCC in a domain or workgroup WinCC is enabled for operation within a domain or workgroup. Note however that domain group policies and restrictions in the domains may prevent installation. In this case, remove the computer from the domain before installing Microsoft Message Queuing, Microsoft SQL Server and WinCC. Log on to the computer concerned locally with administrator rights. Carry out the installation. Following successful installation, the WinCC computer can be registered in the domain again. If the domain-group policies and domain restrictions do not impair the installation, the computer must not be removed from the domain during installation. Note however that domain group policies and restrictions in the domain may also hinder operation. If these restrictions cannot be overcome, operate the WinCC computer in a work group. If necessary, contact the domain administrator. Regards Georg Berghof

So, briefly WinCC 7.5 + Upd 4 is not supported on this build of OS, and SP2 has unresolved issues mentioned above. Would it be the best option to try SP1? Best Regards, Cumhur NAMRUK

CNamruk Regular Member Joined: 4/26/2018 Last visit: 9/1/2024 Posts: 7 Rating: (0)	Hi all, Feedback as promised: I set my PC as a part of workgroup instead of domain Uninstalled all WinCC related applications and services Created a brand new user Checked prerequisities (MS message queuing, .NET 3.5 installation, etc.) reinstalled WinCC by following the instruction manual (just to be sure that anything shall not be missed) Got the same result. This has happened repeatedly with WinCC, WinCC + SP1, WinCC + SP2. Then, Installed Vmware. Created a brand new virtual machine (Win10Pro / 20H2) Applied same installation steps. It worked. I tried even with 21H1 version, and it also works. I will not use this version yet, of couse; I'll stay with Win10Pro / 20H2 & WinCC 7.5 SP1. Unfortunately, new OS installation still seems to be the best option if you run problems with WinCC (at least, with a case like I had). Best Regards, Cumhur NAMRUK

moh1985moh Joined: 6/23/2024 Last visit: 10/14/2024 Posts: 1 Rating: (0)	i have same problem and it solved by checking siemens compatability tools then select wincc 7.5 then download the file and open it ,then you should check wich version of wincc you installed on your pc and wich version of windows you install in your pc check the note putted beside windows version in compatabilty file follow the note then it will solved,my actual problem was i install wincc 7.5 sp2 on window 10 pro 22h2 if you follow the note it show that you (should) install update 15 for wincc 7.5 sp2 then solved.
