pontiveros Posts: 11 Rating: (1)	Hi, I'm trying to connect to WinCC (6.2) database. I realize that it can be accessed like normal MSSQL database, so i want to know if it's legal to connect this way. I mean, i did a little research and i saw various Siemens Tools to achieve this task, but connecting directly i don't need none of those. Thanks in advance

Rauhreif2 Posts: 10 Rating: (0)	I am searching for a good way to store PLC process parameters in a file. One interesting way would be to copy it directly from the SQL-Database. I found so far, that with SELECT VARIABLENAME, ADDRESSPARAMETER FROM MCPVWRITEVARPROPERTY i could get all Tagnames, with its plc address, but i dont have a clue where the actual value of the tag is stored. But if this would be illegal i couldnt use it anyway. So i would be interested in an official statment too. Best regards Rauhreif

But the thing is that i can get connected to the database already, so i don't need the extra benefits of those tools, so my doubt is, the access that i can get to the database through regular odbc controller, is legal?

efka Posts: 799 Rating: (43)	hi, in which way do you want to access the database ? MS SQL Management studio or via script? When you want to acces via script, I think you have to buy a valid license, because the system realizes when connecitivty pack or odk functions are in use. regards

kukukk Posts: 133 Rating: (5)	Hello, I can not find the thread right now, but if I remember correctly the SQL server installed with WinCC has a special licence. It is connected to WinCC and you can not use for other purposes, nor access it outside from WinCC. Even if technically I think it's possible, it is not legal. An other problem that could appear: there are two type of archives: taglogging fast and taglogging slow.If I'm right, the values for taglogging slow are compressed. So even if you can access the database, it is possible that you can not use the values readed... So... If you want to access archived values without standard WinCC components (OnlineTable/Trend Control, WinCC Alarm Control), you should buy an additional license (Connectivity Pack, Industrial Databridge, ODK, etc) I hope that somebody can confirm this... As you said, it is technically posible, but i didn't understood the wincc licence stuff, thank for clarify this. Besides if someone could confirm this with Siemens papers would be great. If you're talking about using local CLIENT access orremoteCLIENTaccess to "MS SQL Server/ WinCC instance" via MS OLEDB provider with WinCC's own "Command Procedure" & "Customer View" embedded in"MS SQL Server/ WinCC instance" when * WinCC Basic has been installed/ ran in this local computer, then ~ I don't think it required to get extra licence such as buying "Connectivity Pack" or so ;D '------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The WinCC (itself) / or Connectivity Pack enables licensed access to online and archive data of WinCC. WinCC Client Access License (WinCC/CAL) A Client Access License is a license for remote access to the MS SQL Server database. If the computer performing the access has an installation of a WinCC Family product (WinCC Basic, Web Navigator, Dat@Monitor, etc.), no WinCC/CAL is required for this computer.
