Hello All, I have S7-400FH PLC (414-5H) with load memory of around 800KBytes. (as per property of blocks 839KB load and 364+175KB work memory) PLC has 1 MB of RAM card. 414-5H PLC has internal 4MB with 2 MB work and 2 MB load memory. In below link it says that it will first fill internal RAM load memory and if it is fill it will fill external load memory. So technically, does that means I don't need memory card? https://support.industry.siemens.com/cs/ww/en/view/7302549 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |

Hello pradhan; I recommend you read the link you provided on the Memory Concept of the S7-400 once more, you seem to have missed important details. Since you have not provided the exact part number for your CPU, I have used the techncal data of the 6ES7414-5HM06-0AB0 to point out an important distinction in its memory design: https://support.industry.siemens.com/cs/pd/252539?pdti=td&dl=en&lc=en-WW Yes this CPU does have integrated work memory up to 4 MB, but it only has 512K of integrated RAM for Load memory. Which means you can only download a small program (up to 512 kB) to this CPU without additional extermal memoruy card. To use the full work memory of this CPU it is recommended to have a rtion o 1.5 times the load memory to work memory, so you need 6MB or work memory, . In reality you would need to purchase a 8MB memory card, RAM or Flash-EPROM. Your 1MB memory card gives you atotal of 1.5 MB load memory (1 MB on the memory card, 512 kB in the internal RAM load memory), good enough for a 1Mb program (work memory). Hope this helps, Daniel Chartier |
