Can third-party Modbus devices be integrated into the redundant Modbus network?

 Would you be able to explain what is the use case for this package? is this useful only for ALL Siemens PLC network where Server and Client blocks are implemented, or third-party modbus devices can be integrated into the Redundant Modbus network? If yes, how a third-party Modbus device understands the redundancy?! is there any manual for this package?

Hi,

from TIA V15 there are redundant Modbus/TCP blocks for CPUs 1200 and 1500.

You can find the instructions MB_RED_CLIENT and MB_RED_SERVER in Communication -> Others -> Modbus/TCP.

The blocks realize a single-sided or a double-sided link redundancy between the CPU and a communication partner.

The order numbers are:

• 6AV6676-6MB40-0AX0 for the package version
• 6AV6676-6MB40-0AD0 for the download version

this has nothing to do with redundancy. All devices as Slaves does know nothing about that, they only knows Modbus protocol frames and answer to correct frames, nothing else. Redundancy is required at Master side with some HW setup also to solve that problematic situation and do remedy. With that blocks then all is prepared and solved, nothing special. Modbus protocol is standard simply, all devices can be different from manufacturers and can be used due standard protocol definitions. This is how I see this situation basically.

Then why we have a separate blocks for REDUNDANT Modbus with a separate license? What is the use case for RED Modbus Client block?

I understand this very basically that licencies are required for each CPU used, logically. In case of redundancy you have 2 CPUs for this task, correct? Look at your first post about Wustenrauber's rsugestion about one and two side redundancy systems. I recommend better check some documentations about this problematic. In case you expect answer from more experiencies user in this problematic, share some data about your type of licence and HW used to have better look at your actual situation. I just answered to your question about name of Topic, how Modbus Slave devices are expected to working with some type of network.

I am not able to find any documentation for this library. Do you have a link to a user manual or any other document?

I need to understand what is the use case for this library and if third-party Modbus devices can be added to the Modbus network if we use this library. I am not sure if this library only works on redundant CPUs or two standalone CPUs can be used as Modbus Redundant Master.
