Connect PC without RS232 to S5 PLC

ToTheNextLevel... Posts: 2 Rating: (0)	My new PC does not have seriell port. Software on my PC is Windows XP and Step 5 ver. 7.2 I bought this USB to seriell converter. I am doing exactly what the instructions says about installing this equipment. When I then try to connectthe PLC the message System message no. 0334 are displayed. I have tried this hints from below, foundfrom support... QUESTION: Why do I get the message "System message no. 0334" when attempting to set up an online connection in STEP 5? ANSWER: You are using STEP 5 V7.2 in Microsoft Windows XP. When attempting to set up an online connection to an S5 controller with STEP 5, you get the message "System message no. 0334". Then you can no longer set up an online connection to the CPU with STEP 5. The reasons for the message can be the following: The COM interface has the wrong parameters. The COM interface is blocked by another software. There is a PCMCIA modem in your PC card slot. Remedy: Remove any PCMCIA modem. Open the "Device Manager" in Windows XP via "Start > Settings > Control Panel > System > Hardware tab". Select the "Connections" or "Ports" entry. There you will find the "COM1" interface. Right-click on "COM1" and select the "Properties" item in the pull-down menu. Click the "Connection Settings" tab, then the "Restore" button and finally you click on "OK". Now restart Windows. Then you will be able to go online again with STEP 5. Note: The S5 online connection can also be blocked by mobile phone software (e.g. "Quick Sync", "Data Exchange", "Nokia Suite" or "Ericsson PC Suite"). Uninstall any such software and proceed as described above. Whitout getting online...[:cry:] Is there any thing else for me to try?

[:(] Siemens have nothing to use USB together with STEP5 [:cry:], on the WEB i have found several time ago a USB to TTY interface. [;)] http://www.cdelektronic.de/products/S5_PG-USB/s5_pg-usb.html So maybe throw away the one you have now, or when it is a USB/TTY converterget a driver for it, because the COM-port have to be linked to the USB-interface. arla-mike Posts: 3 Rating: (0)	I've also had problems with PC's that don't have a true serial port. Some of the USB/Serial adapters on the market work but I have yet to find one, in the end I purchsed a USB/TTY cable from this company and it works fine. http://www.ibhsoftec-sps.de/[:D]
