Hello Algudkar; There is no relationship between the two acronyms (although PID loops can appear on P&IDs). P&ID refers to a piping and instrumentation diagram, that shows the interconnection of instruments and plant equipment in order to control and direct a process. PID refers to a type of feedback loopcontrol algortihm (proportionnal, integral, derivative)used to program the functions of motors, valves, pumps... involved in reaching and maintaining a setpoint in a plant. Every PLC I know can implement a PID loop to control a level, a temperature, a motor speed... For a basic understanding of both, please refer to these Wikipedia pages: - P&ID: Piping and instrumentation diagram - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - PID: PID controller - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Hope this helps, Daniel Chartier |
