SIMADYN-D Communication with WInCC

Navnag Platinum Member Joined: 11/21/2007 Last visit: 9/25/2024 Posts: 2325 Rating: (308)	Hi All We have a Simadyn-D control system having SR24.3Rack, PM5 Processors and MM4 Buffer Memory besides ITDC and IT41 modules. Presently it communicates with a WinCC Server using a CS7 and SS4+SS2 submodules on 3964R serial protocol ( Which is obviously very slow ). The Server is further connected to two clients. We want to use a faster mode of communication ( Profibus / Ethenet ). Also it would be better is two seperate wincc stations can communicate simultaneously with the Rack. From ST DA I understand CSH11 ethernet ( SINEC-H1 ) module is already discontinued. What are my options in the present scenario ? Anyone having similar problem ? Thanks Navnag

KSN Platinum Expert Joined: 8/25/2006 Last visit: 11/16/2024 Posts: 2211 Rating: (280)	If you use D7-SYS (not Struc), I recommend you to communicate to WinCC over MPI (CS7+SS52). But if you use struc the only way is to use Ethernet (CSH11) or Profibus (CS7+SS52), but in this case you will need additional Simadyn D-PMC Ethernet or Simadyn D-PMC Profibus communication driver for WinCC.

Some more questions -- a) Isn't CSH11 now phased out ... or is it still available ? a) All the existing software is in STRUC-G. .. is it possible to convert it to D7-sys ? b) All three slots of existing CS7 are occupied. ( 1 No. SS4+SS2 , 2 Nos. SS52 Profibus masters ) Free rack Slots are available. CAn I put another CS7 with SS52 or CSH11 and connect2 Nos. WinCC Stations ( With suitable driver ) on MPI / Profibus / Ethernet? c) If we cannot convert then again can I install another CS7 + SS4+SS2 and connect another winCC station to this port ? You sould contact Siemens. b) There is D7-SYS - STRUC G - Converter in the D7-SYS, but I never use it. It has some limitations, and I think you will convert manually the largest part of your program. c)There is no problem to insert additional CS7 with SS52 or CSH11 or both. Also there is no problem to connect 2 WinCC stations to the rack. d) I don't know about communication over 3964R protocol, so I am not sure is it possible to connect second WinCC station.

This is the simplest way and this is the fastest communication.And if you will stay with struc, you will need PMC driver for WinCC (this driver is not so cheaper), and there is some additional software forcreate tags for WinCC in this case.

It has some limitations, and I think you will convert manually the largest part of your program. The converter has some limitations: - converts only 32bit Programs (no problem for you) - converts only the standard libaries (FBS...) - converts one FB-Editor page to four CFC pages of a CFC chart.

I am exploring 2 options now : a) Install Another CS7 Card + 2 Nos. SS4 + SS2 modules and Connect 2 Nos. additional WinCC Stations to the SIMD rack OR b) Install Another CS7 card + SS52 card with MPI and connect all 3 WinCC stations using CP-5611 cards. In this case do I need PMC Profibus software in PC side ? Would these options be OK ? Best Regards Navnag

In this case variant a) will be cheaper because of the price of PMC-Profibus driver nedeed for WinCC in variant b). Also if you choose b) you will need to replace all tags in WinCC. Also remember that SS52 under Struc can work only as Profibus, with D7-SYS it can work as Profibus or as MPI.

THeir example shows use with S5 and TI systems but there is no mention of SIMADYN-D Serial communication ( DUST / 3964 etc ) Regards Navnag
