STEPPER MOTOR CONTROL

John Glynn Posts: 6 Rating: (0)	Does the Motion Control functionality supplied with the S71200 give the same functionality as the EM253 module gives the S7 200 PLC. I get very good results with the EM253 module and the FM353 stepdrive and would like to do the same using the S71200 PLC.

William_B Posts: 5225 Rating: (1196)	Hi John. The short answer is YES. There are some things you can do with the S7-1200 that is more than the S7-200. On the hardware side you have hardware options to drive at pulse speeds of.. * 100kHz * 200kHz * 1MHz These pulse rates depends on what hardware you choose. That would mean that you can drive your amplifier at a higher "micro step multiplication rate". I am surprised you use the FM drive though.. Hope this is of help to you.

John Glynn Posts: 6 Rating: (0)	I only use Siemens Automation and drives and the FM 353 drive was recommended for use with the Simostep motors that I use. The motors I usually use are a 2NM motor 1FL3041-0AC31-0BG0 which I have used now for many years. While the FM 353 was developed for the S7300 plc there are Siemens projects under the micro automation series of projects that demonstrate how to use the drive with the EM253 module and the S7200 PLC. In any case I am now interested in exploring change and I would like to move to the S7 1200 PLC but I dont want to lose any of the functionality. I have ,at the moment a number of systems, with the FM 353 drive systems already and I think that the first change for me is just to replace the PLC but the big question at the moment for me is will I be able to achieve the same results on the S7 1200 with the onboard motion control system

Thanks. This gives me plenty of reading. I'm thinking that the following spec for a PLC is about right for development of a single axis application ?

William_B Posts: 5225 Rating: (1196)	[smile] Boy.. you do like doing it with all-Siemens products, don't you? The PLC will be fine. The power supply: If the power output was okay for the S7-200's it will work here too.
