UDT in nested FB

FrankTheTank Posts: 4 Rating: (0)	Hi All, I want to connect a udt-var declared as an io to an nested FB within. But it seems to be impossible. Can anybody help me? Example FB fbProcesX has to pumps (P1 and P2) of the same type (FB fbPump). fbPump has an io var declared as the type udtPump. fbProces has to io vars, ioP1 and ioP2, also declared as the type udtPump. Within fbProcesX I call fbPump two times as an multiple instance (P1 and P2). Now it's impossible to connect ioP1/ioP2 to the io var of the two fbPump. There are slightly similar threads, but I can't find a solution on the forum. So please help me to solve/bypass this problem. Thanks, Frank

Your FB12 instances would then connect using the notation InstanceDBSymbol.ioP1 where InstanceDBSymbol is the symbol name for the instance each FB12 call. See my attached image. Hi Smiffy, I don't get it yet. In your examplefb 12 isn't a nested FB. What I want is a FB(fbProcesX) for aproces. In a plantI havea few copies of that proces.Let's say I have two pumps in that proces. For the pumps I use twice the FB fbPump. These pumps have an inout-var called 'io', of udtPump. I use this to read inputs and write outputs. So fbProces needs two INOUT vars, ioP1 and ioP2, both of the type udtPump. Then within fbProcesX the call for the first pump is connected with ioP1. And the second pump is connected with ioP2. I hope it's more clear now. If it's still the same as you already understood, please explain your example. thanx, Frank

fritz Diamond Expert Joined: 10/7/2005 Last visit: 11/6/2024 Posts: 3026 Rating: (1056)	Hello FrankTheTank I'm afraid to say thatit isNOT possibleto pass a complex data type (e.g. UDT) from an IN_OUT of a callerFB to theIN_OUT of the called FB and attached is a pdf taken from the Step 7 Help that shows you what data types can be passed on as IN's/OUT,s/IN_OUT's from FC/FB to FC/FB. Have a look too at the thread Passing INOUT data from Host FB to INOUT of MultiInstance FB within first FB whichhas some suggestions that may help you to find a way around this.
