kamb Regular Member Joined: 1/1/2008 Last visit: 7/3/2022 Posts: 35 Rating: (0)	Hi, I have an application (burner torch drive of slab cutting machine) with a special motor from Yaskawa and its related drive (duplex servomotor and the servopack). As the motors and drives are getting very old, I need to replace them with a system from Siemens. I thought to use Siemens Servemotors ( for example 1PH8 servomotors) and the proper drive for that servomotors. If anybody has any opinion or experience in this regard, please let me know. Thanks

DenisMor Posts: 344 Rating: (50)	Sounds like a Machine Tool application. Depending on the size of the motors required you can consider synchronous families of servo motors: 1FT7, 1FK7. For larger motors, 1PH8 series is a good fit: it is available as both permanent magnet and asynchronous versions. Sinamics S drive family is a good fit for all these motors. SINUMERIC CNC control for motion and automation.

The torches are being moved on the width of slab by those motors. It is very important to be able to control the speed very acurately to have a very smooth cut. I will go through Sinamics and see if they are fine for my application or not, however what I can say is that the motors are very small here (less than one KW). Please let me know your opinion if anything more comes to your mind. Thanks and regards Kamb

DenisMor Posts: 344 Rating: (50)	For fractional kW applications take a look at a 1FK7 motor series. It is a permanent magnet motor series available in standard, high dynamic (low inertia) and high inertia variants with high resolution sin/cos absolute encoders. Sinamics S120 drive family is the right drive family for controlling those motors.

I would like to point out as these motors are generally used with gear box & incremental encoder. You can check the 1FT5 series servo motors for the same application but then, what about gear box & in case if siemens make motoris selected, mounting feasibilty with gear box needs to be confirm. Actually in either case there would be some challenges to connect motor to the gearbox, however as I have to replace both motors and drives, I was thinking to work with Siemens devices. The reason is that it is easier to find parts for Siemens motors and drives than Yaskawa. Thanks and regards Kamb

In case of Yaskawa make, they have a option of supply of gear box with motor. In case of Yaskawa choice of variety of lower rating motors is much more as compare to Siemens. (Yaskawa range 250,400, 750 watt, where as in Siemens 500, 1000 watt, ofcourse it is as per my best knowledge) Are you thinking/planning to replace the controller also. DEEP.
