dadougalee Posts: 6 Rating: (0)	For the past few days I have been unable to verify a connection between these two devices. I am aware that the CP5611 is a plug and play device so I can skip the "Set PG/PC Interface" section. I am unfamiliar with Simatic, and all these tools are a bit overwhelming. It doesn't seem to fit in a PCI slot very "snug", which has me concerned. I was hoping there was someone out there that could give me a few simple steps just to make sure if the CP5611 card is working. Thanks for any help you offer.

Here should be a CP5611, select it and go to diagnostics. Here is a test button and a read button. Pay attention, please connect CP5611 with S7-300. Best regards, Wizard

(find new hardware) Have you tried to use another slot? Edit: have you any Siemens software installed? Best regards, Wizard

dadougalee Posts: 6 Rating: (0)	Well there is my problem. It isn't in the device manager at all. I assumed it would have been picked up by windows before, and you telling me this confirms it. So it looks like it is not in the slot correctly, or I have a bad card. Unfortunately I am working with a Dell that is limited to one PCI slot, lol. I am going to open my computer up and take a look at the PCI slot. Thanks.

dadougalee Posts: 6 Rating: (0)	Ok, I had to about break the board, but it's in it's PCIslot snug now, and is up and running. Windows detected it and everything. Now I am trying to to connect the CP 5611 A2 to a S7-300 processor. I have followed the OPC Application for Profibus-DP example from the manual, but I am confused when I get toSimatic NCM PC Station config. Do I just add the OPC Server, and CP5611 to my station, and then compile and download? Or am I skipping a step? I just want to be able to view the database of the S7-300 PLC from the OPC Server on my PC.

dadougalee Posts: 6 Rating: (0)	I forgot to mention that when I download from the SIMATIC NCM CP Config, in the select target module dialog, I see OPC Server, CP 5611, and Stationmanager. I select ok from there and then and I am brought to a Select Node Address window that when I click the 'View' button, it detects the CPU that I want to communicate with, but when it downloads, I get this error: Download (33:16662) Online: The connection to the target module cannot be established.

J_Bell Posts: 5822 Rating: (412)	Hello, I fear we have a little problem her. If you only have the NCM PC you can not look into the PLC at all. This can only be done with STEP 7, not with NCM PC. If youwant to Program the PLC you need, as said STEP 7. You do not have to put the PC as a DP Master or the PLC as a DP Slave at all. What you use for programming are PG Functions. These functions are part of STEP 7. If you want to use the Data of the PLC with another application than we can think about the use of DP Master / Slave system. But even than it is much more useful to use S7 Communication instead. If you want to use DP you will have to add a DP Master System in HW Config. Than you have to add the DP Slave to this System. For you it is necessary to add the GSD File of the CPU you want to use to the HW Catalogue in NCM PC. I hope I could help a bit. Best regards J_Bell

Please have a look at following Link: http://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/view/en/15364951 It's important to set PG/PC interface to PC internal. You make a configuration in NCM PC manager (CP5611 and OPC server). Also make a S7-connection in Netpro. To an unspecified partner with the profibus address of S7-300 CPU (Please pay attention to Address details) Make sure you download configuration and connection to PC. (PC internal) Then you can check with OPC scout. Hope this will help. Best regards, Wizard

Hopefully once I figure out how to get this information, I should be in a good position. Thanks for all your guys help.
