For example on CF card for Sinumerik you have few partitions with different file format and if you formatted with some software and you change file format or you just for some reason delete partition you are in big trouble. Maybe your digital camera for some reason is using same file format or this camera can format only user partition. Best regards

In this way, the firmware is not affected (I guess). Also, if you have license key in the card (MMC or CF), it is better to keep away the 'key' folder seperately before formatting. In this way, you can protect the license with accedientally formatting. When there is power surge, MMC cards and CF cards gets corrupted. If we do a "quick format" and then copy the backup again (with a card reader), it works like a charm...
