Hello, I'm running a 1513-1 PN CPU, Firmware V2.1.0. Randomly the PLC started losing connection to its Profinet devices (mainly remote IO and Siemens VFDs). The diagnostic buffer shows error messages for around 10 seconds, after which it appears communication is restored. After this first occurred it happened 1-2 times per day for a couple days 12+ hours apart from one another, then nothing for two weeks, and then it happened again today. Because it happens so randomly we're not sure how best to troubleshoot - we're logging pings to the PLC from a PC on the same network but when the dropout occurs the pings still go through fine. Attached is the PLC's diagnostic buffer, though it's mostly full of "I/O read access error" from devices it's losing communications with. Any ideas are appreciated and let me know if you need more info. Thanks! AttachmentS1500 Diagnostics.txt (539 Downloads) |

Another development - we had several occurrences last night and this morning at 18:25, 21:55, 1:25, 4:55 and 8:25. This was the first time we had this many happen in a row and showed that it's happening every 3 1/2 hours? I've attached the most recent diagnostics (PLC times are slightly off).

Hi Lucas you'll ideally add a monitoring device like Indu-Sol's PROFINET-INspektor to the Network to help working out what is going on (more so as this is indeed a really weird and wonderful problem). In absence of this though, here are some questions:

Hi Lucas haven't seen that ProSoft Netload calculator before and while it reckons pps (packets per second) is too high, pps is not criteria that is generally used for PROFINET (Netload is the one that matters). I do wonder if this is ProSoft Netload calculator is specific to using the ProSoft gateway which may have pps related limits. Anyhow, a quick and dirty calc with PI's Netload calculator has the Netload at less than 5% which is well below the 20% (and as expected given that you have only 14 Devices with little to no I/O's). If you want to get a "proper" picture of it all, grab the 21 day trial version of SINETPLAN to completely model your PN Network including the HMI's and Modbus Devices (and Indu-Sol PROnetplan may be worth your while considering too although its demo version unfortunately caters for only 10 Devices) Other process of elimination ideas are:
If nothing helps, fork out money and add the previouly suggested INspektor to it all
