Random SF on power up from CPU341

Balderdash Posts: 11 Rating: (0)	Hi, I have a system with a 314 CPU (6ES7 314-1AF10-0AB0) and a CP341 (6ES7 341-1CH01-0AE0) The CP 341 is using ASCII mode with no protocoll module inserted. It is in slot5, there is a CP340 in slot 4 which works fine. There are no other IO units. The system runs fine, even for months at a time, but after power outages the CP341 more often than not comes up with an SF. Specifically, the SF led blinks and the Tx and Rx leds remain fixed on. Diagnostics report a configuration error, but closer investigation reveals that the CPU is apparently not able to read the model number of the unit. I have disconnected everything as far as possible to isolate the problem, and have reloaded the whole project, as well as the individual CP and CPU configurations, all with no behavioural change. If I power cycle the unit, about 2 times out of 3 it will come up with the SF fault. Other times it comes up OK and runs fine. It does not seem to matter how long I leave the unit switched off. If anybody has any ideas where the source of my problem couldbe I woul be very grateful!

Ssc_Mikro Posts: 196 Rating: (12)	Have you check your check witch error OB that has been triggered, you should be able to get some diagnose data out from the module. If you use the FB7 that is provide with card there is at description how to evaluate the errors, and how to read them from the CP341. Because the SF led only indicate there a error. JerryH Posts: 5 Rating: (0)	I have the same problem, same diagnostic messages, with CP341-1CH01 and a CPU317-2DP. Also the same behaviour where it may power up ok about50 pct of thetime.It has run fine for a couple of years, but lately they have been doing more mechanical maintenance on the system and therefore powering off the system than they ever did before. CP341 is in rack 1 slot 7, address 400. As well, I have recompiled, reconfigured, redownloaded the HW Cfg, etc. I have just got the firmware from Siemens support net for the CP341 and the CPU. JerryH Posts: 5 Rating: (0)	Thanks J_Bell for your post.I'm a little surprised to think that a serial connection issue would lead to a power up STOP in the CPU with log entries like the diagnostic log I provided. The logs look like the card fails to be recognized as the proper part number, or fails to take on a configuration, or something like that. And all this only occurs on initial power up. If the CPU is put in Stop mode by the programming terminal, or the toggle switch, and then restarted, everything works fine. For example if you took the RS422 connection off, the SF light goes on to indicate an open connection, but the CPU does not go into STOP mode. Everything else in the system works fine, except you don't getdata from the serial port, since it is not connectec. If you restore the connection, then the SF light goes off, and everything returns to normal. I tried reflashing the firmware in the CP, but it made no change. I was unable to flash the CPU, since it doesn't have the boot loader, and I don't have the tools in the field to do the MMC method. I tried getting the diagnostic logs from the CP itself as outlined in an earlier post. Here's the problem. When the system powers up successfully, the CP diagnostic buffer is full of good news. Because the CP diagnostic buffer is not retained through power off, this good news is gone next time. When the system powers up in CPU STOP because of this problem, the CP is unreachable, (with PG connected by any of DP, MPI, Ethernet) hence do diag logs. When it finally powers up OK, then once again, only good news. In any case, I am replacing the CP341 RS422 card with a CP340 RS232 version tomorrow, since that is what I have available, and changing my external serial device to RS232 transmission, since it is near enough to the control panel. We'll see if that makes any difference.

Balderdash Posts: 11 Rating: (0)	I appear to be in exactly the same situation as JerryH. My RS485 lines are only connected to modules in the same control cabinet on the same 24V supply. Also, in my configuaration disconecting the serial lines does not cause an SF (on the odd occasion I manage to power up without an SF). I have looked into the firmware releases and it would appear that their are issues at power up and yes I should be upgrading the firmware. But like JerryH, the current firmware I have in the unit does not support the bootloader, also, the firmware upgrade requires Step7 5.3, and I have version 5.2. I have an MMC slot in my portable, but from what I can figure out Step 7 will only talk to siemens own MMC programmer. It is very frustrating, we are talking about bugs in Siemens firmware, but we are the ones who have to outlay the time and expense, at least they could try and make things easier for us. As it is I am faced with the prospect of having to purchase the external programmer and I am not even sure if it will fix the problem.

JerryH Posts: 5 Rating: (0)	TodayI replaced the CP341 RS422/485 card with a simpler CP340 RS232 card. (because my local distributor had one in stock). No more problems! I had the luxury of selecting RS232 communication at my field device and with a simple connector change at the CP card, I was in business. I powered off and on at least a dozen times myself, and then again a bunch more times to demonstrate to the customer that he could be confident in our equipment once again. Came up running everytime. Balderdash, I think the SF light comes on when you disconnect the cable only if you have Break Detect checked off on the CP property or parameter sheet. I have Step7 5.4 so I could have used the Upgrade Firmware selection if the CPU317 would have been recent enough to support the bootloader.I have field upgraded other, newer CPU317 PN/DPs before and it is straight forward. Don't buy a prommer, cry to your local Siemens guy and get him to call in a favour from his techy to get you the firmware on MMC. You might have to buy the MMC, since you probably don't want to leave your site with an empty CPU while you go chasing around for the firmware. This will be my approach to getting the CPU317 updated eventually.

SG. Posts: 2 Rating: (0)	Hi, i have the eaxct same fault , i have a S7317-2DP, linked to CP 341 - 6ES7 341-1CH01-0AE0. On power up the CP 341-1 , brings up a system fault, where the "SF" led blinks at 2hz, whilst the TX and RX ,led stays solid green. After powering off and on , about 20 times, that fault then clears , and everything works as normal. i had looked at the diagnostic buffer, and faulty modules , which all indicate that there is an internal error with the CP card. The fault seems to be intermittent , with re-cycling of 24V power supply. My question is , what are the chances are if i replace that CP 341-1 ,with the latest CP341-1 card available, which is 6ES7 341-1CH02-0AE0, i am not sure if the card is faulty ,although diagnostic buffer picks up a fault on it at the , fault state, by changing the card what are the possibilties that the fault could still exist. your help will be highly appreciated thanks
