dshha Advanced Member Joined: 6/15/2010 Last visit: 8/1/2024 Posts: 31 Rating: (1)	Hi, We urgently need technical assistance from Siemens to confirm the following : 1) Attached configuration with S7-400 H-system and remote IO is feasible. 2) Confirm that Compressor system 2 can still immediately operate if Compressorsystem 1 is de-energised (ie: No power to Compressor skid 1 RIO rack and Compressor skid 1 OLM). Aret Posts: 2348 Rating: (264)	Interesting structure The thing i should be aware of is DP-termination in case you lose 1 Compressor station. According to your structure DP line 2 has following nodes- local io 2, skid2 2, skid 1 1. In case you lose skid 1 station DP line 2 becomes unterminated. What length of DP line is in between skid 1 and 2? I guess standard solution is adding OLM in each compressor skid station and make double-star or double-ring topology.

It looks like a rather "odd" PB design at first glance, but itwill - in principle - work dshha 2) Confirm that Compressor system 2 can still immediately operate if Compressorsystem 1 is de-energised (ie: No power to Compressor skid 1 RIO rack and Compressor skid 1 OLM). The opposite case for Compressor skid 2 de-energised should also be confirmed. It may is the best answer I can give you, andyou shouldbe aware of the following: - As already stated by Aret, you'll loose proper Segment termination, which may lead to a loss of the other compressor systems RIO rack too. The only way to avoid this is by adding a copper Profibus return line from each skid back tothe other skid and placementof active Profibus terminator there (and ensuring to notexceed permissible Segment lenght) - You will loose the Profibus redundancyand now operate the remaining Compressor RIO rack on a single Profibus/IM153. Opting for a dual redundant FO Profibus will eliminate the above issues and would be my personal Design choice and attached is a sketch on how it would look I hope this helps Attachment Dual redundant DP RingTopology.jpg (856 Downloads)

Aret Posts: 2348 Rating: (264)	Well for your 1st design with 15m length proper functioning is not guaranteed - it heavily depends on ambient conditions. I won't go for it. As for your second design, as TIBI68 already mentioned, you need to exclude copper link between stations (thus creating double-star) - this is obligatory, because your OLMs would be configured as star topology (no other way for G11 OLMs), and you create ring topology in fact by means of this copper cable.

I have configured OLM's in redundant FO ring and to each OLM on DB9 connected PB devices either one or PB bus and it works. I used G12 OLMs Everything works even if you unplug one OLM other OLM's still have communication. I think you dont need PB cable between Skid 1 and 2. One OLM per Skid is enough I think. In one Skid connect IM modules with PB cable one end connect to OLM DB9. In OLM manual you can read that it will transmit to signal received on one port to all other ports.
