I will communicate with ebmpapst fan via ebmbus.

It work with RS485 link and we must send string and the fan answer with string.

What is the most appropriate function to do that

Hello Philippe;

The freeport protocol appears to fill your requirements, and you can program freeport (Send_P2P, Receive_P2P instructions) with self-created strings.

First here is a condensed presentation of Freeport instructions for a S7-1200.:

For  S7-1200 you will need a serial interface, CM 1241 or CB 1241, RS-485; for a S7-1500, you have a choice of  CM PtP RS422/485 HF or CM PtP RS422/485 BA.

The S7-1200 system manual describes PTP configuration and instructions ( see Send_P2P and Receive_P2P in the left navigation column) here:

This video proesentation can probably guide you for this application. Even though the module used in the video is a CM 1241 RS 232, the instructions you would need are the same.
