Hello Fenrir; There are actually 2 ways to look at your question; so, let's see: First: can profibus-DP be used to control a Vacon drive? From the Vacon website: http://www.vacon.com/Default.aspx?Id=461143 Vacon CX and NX can be controlled by the Profibus DP master The Vacon Profibus DP version is designed especially for communication between automation control systems and distributed I/O at the device level. Profibus-DP can be used to replace parallel signal transmission by the use of 24 V control command and 0…10 V/4…20 mA analog references. Notice the word "replace" (my Bold and Underline); when using Profibus, you do not connect to the digital and analog I/O of the drive physically. You use a communication module on the drive to exchange data with the Profibus-Master in a manner that simulates the drive's inherent control in digital and analog formats. Second: can we use the drive's digital or analog I/O over a Profibus-DP interface? Most Profibus-DP providers (Siemens being one of them) offer some kind of remote I/O over Profibus, that is digital and analog cards on a remote rack that can be controlled by a DP master. Siemens has many families of such interfaces, ET 200M and ET 200Sbeing excellent examples. So you could place say a ET 200M slave unit, with a digital and an analog card (if required) connected to the drive's inputs, and control it remotely over the bus. Please tell us more about the Vacon drive you would like to control (model, size...), wheteher you plan to use a Profibus-DP slave module inside it, or if you would like to use a ET 200M-type solution, Then we can gather more information for you. Hope this helps, Daniel Chartier |
