Transition from S7-200 to S7-300

Jamil_paki Posts: 22 Rating: (0)	I need some suggestions, I have more about 5 years of experience in programming with S7-200. I had the oppurtunity to do some training on S7-300 in a Training seminar conducted by siemens itself. Now I am thinking to switch to S7-300. Can someone suggest the Initial PLC I should select for testing out the features, programming, etc. I browsed and think S7-313C would be good, as it has all the stuff I would Like to test, Digital, Analog and HSC. and its going to be pretty economical, as this will be solely purchased by the company on testing purpose. all suggestions welcome

But maybe 313C - 2DP is better - ...DI16/DO16 integrated; 3 pulse outputs (2.5kHz); 3 channel counting and measuring with incremental encoders 24V (30kHz); MPI+ DP connector (DP master or DP slave); multi-tier configuration up to 31 modules; Send and receive capability for direct data exchange; constant bus cycle time; routing; S7 Communication (loadable FBs/FCs).... You will learn more about profibus connection. I guess you have spare s7-200 spare, and you can try to establish real profibus connection. Of course price is higher then simple 313C (around 200Euro). For the S7-200 you need one Profibus DP EM277 (6ES7277-0AA22-0XA0 ). Price around 250Euro. For me with this hardware is enough to start. But don't forget software... regards

pinpon Posts: 17 Rating: (3)	313C is good, but if you want PROFIBUS addition, I recommend the 314C-2DP. STEP 7 has a PLC simulator, called S7-PLCSim, is very good.

Jamil_paki Posts: 22 Rating: (0)	I 've just received the Offer from siemens. I may be able to convince my company to buy the hardware, but convincing to by a software worth $2,700.00 for testing? Can someone advise, considering this is just the start (testing period) how about I get STEP 7 LITE? will I be able to fully programe the hardware S7-313C? or are there limitations? (By the way, for those who may not be aware, as I was until today, the LITE is free) I understand it does not have networking options enabled, but I wont be upto networking for next few years maybe. but I can always upgrade if I need to.

It was developped originally for OEMs whose core market was more single machines rather than plants, so networking capacities were stripped. No Netpro (communications connection editor), co CPs in the hardware catalog. But the instruction list is the same (outside of communication blocks) and the programming languages and techniques are similar to the Step 7 basis package (no SCL or Graph packages support, though). So you will get a good feel for the whole package and good practice. And yes, there are upgrade licenses available from Lite to Step 7, so you can move up to the standard license at a better price later. Two more differences you might want to look ast: Step 7 Lite works under XP Home edition (no Vista support yet) while Step 7 Basis requires a XP Pro version (or 2000 Pro, Vista Ultimate); and the save format of the Lite projects are not the same as Step 7 program; they are incompatible, but there is an import/export procedure that will allow a Lite program to work in Step 7, and vice-versa.
