I have available 4 wire Analog Input module ET200S(4-20ma) & I want to add now 2 wire transmitter.

Could I connect 2 wire transmitter on 4 wire Analog Input module ET200S(4-20ma).

or for 2 wire transmitter must to take  4 wire Analog Input module.

Please guide.

Could you give us reference of your analog input module ?

Normally, 4 wires analog inputs card has 2 wires to power transmitter and 2 wires for measurement.

With 2 wires transmitter, power supply come from external and the 2 other wires are for measurement. So on you card you have just to connect the 2 wires for measurement and leave the 2 wires for supply not connected.

4 wires transmitter is powered by an external supply.

did you try to connect 2 wire transmitter to a 4 wire analog input ?

the last post in this topic is from 2017, maybe you won't get any answers to the original topic.

But it is not a general rule that a 2-wire transmitter can be used with a 4-wire module, especially with newer generation hardware modules.
At least you will have several downsides, strongly depend on which analog module with which internal hardware layout is used. Because if you do so, you can lose some diagnostics and also protection features like overcurrent protection. So even if it works, it can have potential negative impacts, also for the quality of the measurement itself.

The bottom line is:
There are for 2-wire and 4-wire transmitters and also combined ones. Use the correct module for the correct transmitter.
