SMC 20 with a 7-30vdc sin/cos encoder

Has anyone had any success in commissioning a system with a SMC 20 and a SEW safety encoder? It’s a 7-30vdc incremental sin/cos, 1vpp?

i know the SMC20 only outputs 5vdc, so I powered the encoders via a common 24vdc system, connected the a/a b/b etc back and now a fault code appears ( I’ll add this tomorrow)

just wondered if anyones done this before? Maybe a resistor across the supply to trick the smc20 it has a legit encoder hanging off it?? From memory the fault is something to do with encoder supply voltage etc

I thin I know about those issues, probably you have faults like F31115, F31116,...

There is a possibility to work with additional resistors in the remote sense signals (this is just a workaround and of course no official solution - the official solution would be to use encoders that fit into the SINAMICS portfolio - just to clarify that before :-) ).

Inside the connector at the SMC20 you can add those resistors.

Between Pin1 (P-Encoder) and Pin 14 (P-Sense) you need to have a 5,6kOhm resistor.

Between Pin 2 (M-Encoder) and Pin 16 (M-Sense) you need a 2,7kOhm resistor.

(properties of resistors: 1% tolerance or better, 250mW or higher, 100ppm/TK100 temperature coefficient or better)

Using a high quality encoder cable is necessary.

The result of the resistors in sense signal will be that the SMC sets up its supply up to 10V and the encoder should work.
