I have a potential customer whose intend to explore load sharing application in long travel crane using 2 units of DC motor. One VSD to control speed and another one to control torque. Rajat Posts: 10 Rating: (1)	Dear Hasrol The concept for load sharing is as below You shall have 2 DC drives - one is master and other is slave . both connected on peer -to-peer link. both motors would be driving the same load (mechanically coupled) The speed setpoint is coming to master . The master RFG output should be the speed setpoint to the slave (transmitted over peer-to-peer link). In slave, to the speed setpoint we add additional 5 %. This is to saturate the speed controller. Now we can transfer the speed controller output of the master (which is current setpoint) over peer-to-peer link. In slave this received current setpoint will be connected to the current limits. As the slave speed controller is saturated , it will always work at the set current limit which is received from the master. And both will share the load. Here you should note that as slave will always give alarm of speed actual deviation which can be ignored (you can change the acceptable speed deviation paramter to aviod fault) Also avoid using current setpoint in slave directly Further transfer the current setpoint on peer-to-peer link and not profibus as profibus dead times lead to instability In case you need further details or details parameter list let me know Cheers Rajat

From your explainaition, the master is in torque control right? and what about the slave? is it on the torque control or speed control? erm its better if you can give me the details with parameterisation of the simoreg dc drive. Rajat Posts: 10 Rating: (1)	Dear Harsol Master is in speed control and in slave the speed controller is forced into saturation andcurrent limits applied as per master current setpoint (effectively the slave runs in torque control) Attached a pdf with some paramters highlighted. this should help Attachment loadshare.zip (983 Downloads)

RAKESH2 Posts: 60 Rating: (2)	Dear Hasrol, First commission both the motors individually I hhink you must be having a single encoder. Make encoder connections parallel to both the drives. If you have seperate encoders no problem You must be havingindividual field control. After you are sure your individual controllers are fine, then go for master\slave configuration. Establish peer to peer connection. Pass on speed controller output of master to slave over peer to peer. Some interlocking between drives have to be taken care of. Since it is a rigid coupling , no special attention to be given to load sharing. Regards Rakesh Borkar
