I set up communication between a CM PTP and a smart meter, and the communication port is configured correctly. However, I'm encountering an error from the Modbus master with error codes 16#81D8 and 16#8281. I configured the mode value to 4 and tried setting the line_pre value to both 0 and 1, but neither worked. I can access the meter using Modbus Poll and retrieve data, but it doesn't work when I try with the PLC.

I did but i have the same errors, i tried to use the libraries V1.1 for ptp and V1.1 for Modbus RTU, but i didn't got any signals from the Modbus master and inside the Modbus instance it seems that it doesn't receive any command no changes no thing in the send buffer. for that setting i got a done from the Modbus comm load . so i switched the version back to V2.1 for ptp and V2.4 for modbus RTU. for this project i have Two CM PTP, 3 DI modules, 1 AQ module and 1 AI module, my question is , does it necessary to insert the CM ptp beside the CPU or it doesn't matter.  i have attached a picture from ET200 manual but the attached CPU is not the same like the one i have. but it mentioned that there is an order for the modules to be considered. check it please and share your thoughts 

i'm not totally sure but it looks like you are trying to read modbus registers from “extended range” (4xxxxx instead of 4xxxx). Seems you probably need some prerequisites for that, see here

 It's working now. I only inserted the communication module with the CPU. I'm not sure if it needs a specific location or if it was incorrectly placed in the rack.
