Does anyone also noticed, that STEP7 v5.6 is MUCH slower then older version?
I had Win 7 SP1 x64 with v5.5 and opening SCL file took around 2,5s.
After update to v5.6 SP2 HF5 it took over 15s!

Then I tried to make clean installation of windows and STEP7, but it still takes over 7s to open SCL file.
So compiling whole project (through Consistency check) takes more then 3x longer.

During the opening a CPU has only around 20% load (on all 4 cores). I have more then 2GB free RAM and system is on SSD. Win7 are in VirtualBox and updated.

the reason for this performance could be the viren scanner. After installing of STEP 7 V5.6 check also the versions of installed viren scanner on your PC. The following viren scanner are compatible with STEP 7 V5.6:

• Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1.6 MP5
• Trend Micro OfficeScan V11.0 SP1 critical patch 6054
• McAfee VirusScan Enterprise V8.8 Patch 7

Hi,

In case of performance topics it is always helpful to check the currently used versions first.

So for V5.6, servicepack 2 + hotfix 9 should be installed.

Is STEP 7 used in VM? If yes, which VM with which windows is used?
What's about assigned ressources?

It seems I have similar problem and you are first menitioning VMs. Maybe this is wrong thread, but I am searginf for some time around this topic. Yea I am empy handed...

When I start the check block consistency, it takes roughly 25sec. to do one block. My colleague has roughly 5sec. per block on the very same software and also very same version of Step7 (V5.6 SP2 HF5)

The only difference is, he is running Step7 on the PC directly, and I am running it in VM. I am using VMWare Worstation 17.0.2 build-21581411, VM has 2 procesors with 8 cores and 16GB of RAM. All drives as NVMe. The PC is same for both of us. Dell Latttude 5521 with i7 and 64GB RAM and two NVMe SSDs. Both PC and VM I see as enough hardware to support such old piece of software which Step7 is. In both cases there were no other user software running.

For antivirus we have both MS Defender Advanced on the PC, VM has the basic preinstalled MS Defender.

During check block consistency there is very high usage of CPU by Automation License Manager. I updated that one to 6.0 SP11, but nothing changed.

It seems like main problem is the SCL editor. It just hangs while opening for some time. Maybe the 20s that makes the difference, but not sure.

I tried to reinstall Step7 and clean its registry with settings, but it is still the same.

Does anybody here please have any thoughts?

-saving FB =7s

It is curious - opening instance DB = 1s

I've solved problem today. I unistalled TIA portal  v14, v15. Installed newest ALM v6.2 upd1.

I'm happy now :-)

-first opening FB =3s
-open next FB (editor is already opened)  =2s
-saving FB =1s

In my case the performance problem was SCL especially at generating cross reference.

Just uptaded ALM to 6.2 SP1 and it is 20 times faster.

Also Step 7 V5.6 SP feels much faster.
