840D; OP12; PCU50; Reference axis after NCU exchange?

human Posts: 26 Rating: (3)	I have put new values(reference points) toparameters 34100 for all axisequiped with linear and rotary absolut encoders(set with parameter34210-accordingtothemanuals). I have also confirmed new ref points. There are no faults like before 27000 and 300950 but I machine doesn't want to move to new reference points. Automatic referencing is selected. I'm selecting auto mode and NC-start and nothing moves. There is no fault or message. Maybe I need to check/change other parameters? -ziped pics in attachment. Pee Ell Sea Posts: 672 Rating: (57)	Hi, If I understand your question you have absolute feedback devices and you are trying to perform a reference procedure. When the 840D powers up it knows what position the axes are at because it has absolute encoders. There is no need for the system to perform a reference procedure after power up. If it did I do not know where the axis would try to move to because there is no reference switch to find or encoder zero marker to pass over. CHeck that on power up that the axis positions are updated automatically and you need not worry any more. If I not understood your question correctly then please try again regards

AnBe Member Joined: 1/15/2008 Last visit: 11/30/2023 Posts: 2 Rating: (0)	Hi, It seems like MD 34210[0] is still in calibration mode for X1, due to settings in MD 34200[0] (ABS). Maybe problem will be solved by just setting MD 34210[0] to 2. Beware of positions.

Pee Ell Sea Posts: 672 Rating: (57)	Hi, Sorry I did not read your question correctly. If you transfer a know value into the reference register then you must set 34210 to 2 yourself. If you jog the axis to a known position and enter this as the reference offset position then you need to set 34210 to a 1 and then press reset and then select reference mode and press the correct axis jog button. This will then transfer the value and set 34210 to 2.

Maybe someone find it useful: 1.exchange NCU 2.go to [Menu Select] machine->machine data->files. download(for all axis) axis data and drive data from machine axis data screen - at least manufacturer backup files 3.for every axis with absloute encoder set new reference point using gage blocks (very precise) -remember(writedown the value). 4.go tomachine [Menu Select], machine data, axis data - set password (SUN.. we all know) to acces needed screens 5.enter remembered value to parameter 34100[0]-forexample148.984mm 6.like Pee Ell Sea wrote - let say for X axis data set parameter 34210[0] to "1" 7.pressactivatemachine data - button above NCK reset on the right side 8.press reset button [//] 9.turn the switch key (orange) to position 3 10.push "REF point" button [ref] - LED should beON 11.push axis[X]button 12.push plus [+] button - like moving the axis 13.new value(148.984mm) should appear on main screen, 34210[0] should change automatically to "2" 14.go tomachine [Menu Select] screen, push 840D button 15.with switch key on position 3 and [ref point] button selected you should be able to see on the right side at the top of the screen button"assign"button - press it 16.in the left bottom corner "confirm machine positions" window should appear 17.select "X" axis with up and dwon arrows and then press toggle(for me it's select) button [O] - the one in the middle of arrows. 18.check the status of reference in the window above - right now should look like onattached photo 19.repeat for all axis equipped with absolut encoders If I had to replace the absolut encoder probably I should do it the same way like after exchanging the NCU. Important thing is to be sure that every axis is referenced, also virtual axis. Some machine has virtual axis called dummy. They are responsible for calculating the speed of axis which are working together - for example gear hobbing machines. Attachment ref_screen.jpg (1180 Downloads)

human Posts: 26 Rating: (3)	Just one more thing (maybe obvious for specialists,notforme) I've spend some time to find it :) Important for machine precision of positioning (for example if you have quality, precision problems) is how many measuring systems it hasphysically and how many of them are working or not (forexample rotary encoder + linear scale). Don't forget to set correctly axis parameter NUMBER OF ENCODERS (if I'm not wrong MD 30200) and also TYPEOFENCODER MD 30240.

How many measuring systems axis has? Which measuring system you need to activate as measuring system? Is it absolute? Why you need to reconfigure referencing? Please provide stepwise procedure you followed to conduct referencing along with above information.

I hope I can help you, but I don't know your basic knowledge level for Siemens CNC or for all CNC, operation? I hope you can post one picture for your m/c MCP, and pointing out which LED you are talking about.You said followed "your steps" who is your? as I think you mentioned is the user above your post, ---you should know basic about 840D (or all Siemens CNC) operation-- try like this--if you know how to "JOG" m/c, press "JOG" button--LED on the button is ON. then using "+" or "-" to move your axis , then press "REF" button, it is on the right side of JOG --if your m/c is standard setting (NO OEM special setting) the LED on REF button should be ON, then you need follow the next step where you read from other use, attention --if you use "X+" or Z+" cannot activate the reference stating ,,try to use X- or Z-, waiting for your feedback SGJG I followed your procedure to reference the axis (human) and as i reach step 10 which is push REF point button i am not seeing the led coming on meaning that ref point switch is not coming on and i tried couple of times just to make sure i did not miss any step. any suggestions to why it would not come on? it is a lathe machine is 840d control
