CPU 416-3XL00 TO 416-3XR05

TRENT_TECH Experienced Member Joined: 11/30/2007 Last visit: 9/6/2024 Posts: 59 Rating: (0)	I need to replace my CPU 6ES7416-3XL00-0AB0 with the replacement unit, 6ES7416-3XR05-0AB0. I'm using PCS7 and our version does not have the new device in the library. Siemens support says I can just install it and download the program even though the part number will not match. This is my first time replacing a CPU. When I do install the new unit, how does PCS7 know where to download to? I can't find a place to put in the MAC address or any addressing when I look at the hardware configuration. I do know that after I get the download done I need to download my interconnections and gateways also, but that's after I get the program into the new CPU. So I pop the new CPU in and that next step is what I'm not getting so far. Thanks for any hints.

So I looked and there it is anyway. So I'll just go that route from the library. After I save and compile do I need to download the connections and gateways on Netpro first or download the program first to the CPU? I want to make sure I get this in the correct order.

Oreca Platinum Expert Joined: 3/14/2008 Last visit: 11/11/2024 Posts: 2126 Rating: (951)	Hi, First you need to download hardware configuration so that the CPU know how you communicate with it and which IO is connected. Then you download netpro so that the CPU knows which connections exist to servers and or other cpu's and then you download your CFC program in the CPU. Sometimes you can download a HUP (Hardware Upgrade Package). it will add a device to the hardware configuration library. Make sure it is released for your PCS7 version and do not install if it is not released for PCS7. Sometimes, you can add a GSD file which adds a device which you can use in your IO. It is basically a configuration file. Also, sometimes you can have a newer version of a device let's say a ET200M DI module. It does not exist in the library, but you can configure the old version and it still works. Siemens makes sure it is backwards compatible.

dchartier Grandmaster Joined: 9/27/2006 Last visit: 11/11/2024 Posts: 12293 Rating: (2691)	Hello Trent; With PCS 7, I seem to remeber that for a new CPU you had to compile and download the Netpro connections first, then the hardware, charts and any oher blocks. Since you don't mention the version of PCS 7 you are using, I cannot provide a link to a specific file, but the standard Getting started manual for your version of PCS 7 will have all the download sequence lined up for you. Search for "PCS 7 v7.1 Getting started" for example, using the Search Box on this page. Hope this helps, Daniel Chartier
