Data Aquisition from Sinumerik 840D Powerline

I have a Sinumerik 840d Powerline with an MMC103. The communication is made by MPI protocol. Is it possible extract data (like current, position, speed, alarms, etc) from the CNC to a ethernet network? In a RJ45 plug? Do you know if are there any adapter for it?

Hi Chris,

Surely there are some methods to do so. I am about to write a paper to explain how to do that step by step. But I am busy and it takes time to do so.

As a short answer:

1- First you need to learn to work with NCVAR Selector. You need to purchase this software or use PG with the Sinumerik toolbox installed.

2- Then you need to read the 611D Drive manual very well to be familiar with all parameters you can extract from your Drive MD

3- You are required to use a gateway to convert Profibus to Ethernet. - usually, the MPI port is occupied and Profibus is empty but if both are occupied, you need a repeater

I have tested this brand: Helmholz

4- Next step is programming PLC and setting DBs for FB2 function

(SIMODRIVE 611 digital/SINUMERIK 840D/810D Drive Functions Function Manual 2010)

5- Final Step is to use a SCADA software to log, archive, and combine all parameters in a meaningful way

Each step requires much more detail.

If you have no problem with the budget,  you can go for "Softing uaGate 840D" and skip all steps above except the first and second one.

If I had time to publish my article about the step-by-step procedures, I will let you know.
