KTP600(TIA program) connect to IM154-8 PN/DP CPU(STEP7 program)?

I have an application where we want to add a KTP600 Basic Color PN (6AV6647-0AD11-3AX0: V11.0.0.0) to an existing IM154-8 PN/DP CPU (6ES7154-8AB01-0AB0: V3.2).

The request is to keep the PLC program in STEP7 V5.5 SP3 and not convert to TIA V12/13. It is understood that the HMI application will need to programmed using TIA V12/13.

TIA is fairly new to me and I am not sure if this is possible? I am assuming that the only issue would be that you would need to use "absolute access" when defining the HMI tag. The PLC would not be inserted in the TIA "Devices & Networks" editor. The connection in the HMI would not have a Station/Partner/Node defined in this case (only SIMATIC S7 300/400 driver and manual PN address entry).
