The layout memory refers to the graphic arrangement of the blocks in the diagram.
This arrangement has been used since the LOGO! 0BA8 and transferred together with the program. It is used when a program from the LOGO! on the PC to restore this arrangement in a empty diagram
The memory is limited, as well as 30,000 (whatever that is, Byte?). If the memory is no longer sufficient when creating a program, the program is transferred to the LOGO! to a warning message.
For the function of the program in the LOGO! but this has no effect. If you then load the program back from the LOGO! to the PC, the blocks are distributed randomly and confused in the diagram, which is very confusing.
Therefore: Always take care of the original LSC file.

The limitations that are really important for the program are:
400 blocks.
8500 kB program memory.

LOGO! Soft Comfort nows all the limitations. 

For example it is not possible to have more than 400 function blocks in one LOGO! Program. Once you reach this limit, then LSC will not allow to use one FB more.

To understand how it works:

Place as many digital inputs in your program as possible. Depending on the selected LOGO! hardware max. 24 digital inputs are possible. Then in the instruction tree the DI will be grayed out.

Depending on the function block you need, max. 400 are possible. If you reach this limit, then all FB's are grayed out.

In this situation you can DL the program to LOGO!, if the selected HW in LOGO! Soft Comfort is the one you have connect to your PC.

As IXO65 mentioned the program memory is the important one, but there are also some other limitations:

+ max 32 NAI
+ max 16 NAQ
+ max numbers of datalog configurations
+ max DI, DQ, AI; AQ
+ max. VM-Memory

+ max. 32 for VM-Mapping

and more.

Summary:
LSC is doing all the limitation check and as long as you can download to LOGO! the program will work. Except you program something wrong.
