I recently got access to Mindsphere cloud and used the FB1500 solution to connect to it.

This is a wonderful solution if you have a S7-1500 in your project.

I ask to get access to 9AC2112-0AA00-1YA2 MindConnect IoT2040, but still waiting.

I have 3 6ES7647-0AA00-1YA2 SIMATIC IOT2040 and was thinking it use a different firmware and won't be able to use it to connect to Mindsphere, but found something on Siemens website.

To load new firmware on your MindConnect hardware please follow these steps:

1. Download the firmware ZIP file.

2. Extract the firmware.

3. Copy the extracted/unzipped files to a USB stick.

4. Insert the USB stick and wait until the firmware update is complete.

a. Update carried out: flashing green LED (only briefly flashing)

b. Connected to MindSphere: LED green

c. Not connected to MindSphere: LED yellow or flashing yellow:

• LED flashes yellow: MindConnect Nano already reaches the MindSphere live system via a direct internet connection.
• LED yellow: a proxy is required.

5. Disconnect the USB stick.

6. Ready.

Would it be possible for me to use this firmware to restore my 6ES7647-0AA00-1YA2 SIMATIC IOT2040 and use them as a 9AC2112-0AA00-1YA2 MindConnect IoT2040?

I don't want to do a stupid thing and disable one of my IOT2040.

Well I already did, here is the answer.

first the MindConnect IoT2040 is based on a "SIMATIC IOT2040 but has a custome specific image for the MindSphere Connection.

There is no official released possibility to setup the Simatic IoT2040 with a MindConnect IoT2040 Image to work directly with MindSphere.

The Simatic IoT2040 is exclusivly supported via the moderated Forum

May there you can find solutions how to connect a Simatic IoT2040 with MindSphere.

Maybe there is a solution to develop your own agent software running on a Simatic IoT2040 based on the MindConenct Library or in MindSphere V3 in the way like this description.

Node red running on the SIMATIC IoT2040 could helps only to programming the API calls which are necessary in the MindSphere V3 Developer How To for onboarding and send data via the MindConnect API.

But in my opinion the is no plug and play solution available.

The support request was close just after this answer and here I am in the forum.

as I know it is not possible to change a SIMATIC IOT2040 into a MindConnect IoT2040 by changing the firmware.

The firmware and the image running are different. If I have any other information I wil come back to you.

The only possibility to use the SIMATIC IOT2000 for MindSphere access is using the MindConnect Lib - like the support already said.

Is it also based on Yocto Linux or it is a closed-source devices?

Introduction to "Visual Flow Creator"

Visual Flow Creator is a component within the MindSphere industrial IoT platform. The component is based on the Node-RED tool developed by IBM.

Node-RED is a software for visual data flow programming in the IoT (Internet of Things). Node-RED was originally developed for linking hardware and devices in the IoT area.

Node-RED generates JavaScript code and is based on the runtime environment of Node.js. Nodes are predefined code blocks or function blocks. You can interlink nodes on the working area. Multiple interlinked nodes produce a so-called "flow".

With Node-RED, IoT applications can be easily implemented in a short amount of time. The focus is on development of prototypes. The graphic programming with function blocks also makes it easier to get started with IoT programming. Knowledge of JavaScript is advantageous for use of Node-RED.

The Visual Flow Creator component extends the functionality of Node-RED with its own nodes developed specifically for MindSphere and enables the following:

• Linking hardware with web services

• Inserting own JavaScript code in "functions" nodes

• Using APIs via nodes within MindSphere

• Data flow processing

• Creating own evaluations with data of MindSphere

• Preparing collected data

• Calculating KPIs

• Creating MicroServices with the data of MindSphere

• Establishing a link with multiple MindApps

• Creating custom rules

• Triggering notifications at certain events or actions

I think it's part of Mindsphere V3.0 itself now, still not sure if it's part of Mindconnect IOT2040.
