The problem is while the command is given from the faceplate, the orientation of the valve is changing in the SCADA from Horizontal to Vertical. I have not specified any reference number in monitoring block for selection of block icon. Please help. Thanks in Advance, GJ

mark1507 Platinum Expert Joined: 6/23/2008 Last visit: 11/7/2024 Posts: 1168 Rating: (283)	Hello, if you have not specified a number for the block icon icon in the block properties in CFC, always the block icon with the lowest number found for that type in the template (@PCS7TypicalsAPLV8) is taken for generation. The different templates (@PCS7TypicalsAPLV8,@PCS7TypicalsAPLV7) are processed in alphanumerical order. Both contain block icons for the different types of blocks, but they are slightly different. The block icons for valves from the @PCS7TypicalsAPLV7 do not change their position (horizontal/vertical) depending on the status (open/close). If you want to use those block icons, simply delete the template @PCS7TypicalsAPLV8. Then the block icons from template @PCS7TypicalsAPLV7 are used for your project. Best regards...

Have you tried to use a different variant of ValMot block icons? Maybe try to open the above PDL to identify what variant you need, or create your own block icon based on PCS 7 Programming Instructions for Blocks V7.0 and higher. There is an FAQ about as well: How do you create your own block icons with SIMATIC PCS 7? PS: as I recall this feature come with APL V8, so as I remember the block icons from APL V7 works without this feature.

It will change it's direction when opening or closing. The reason is because the color blind operators can see a valve is changing it's state... Can it also be to show the closed valve in a position crossing the Pipeline, and opened valve in the same position as pipe ?? Attachment vlvmotl.png (289 Downloads)

The first thing I did when working with the APL default library was changing the extended status display so that the valves would not turn anymore. I thought this was very annoying, but made sense until I met a color blind operator. This is basically listed in the ISA papers as well (can't remember which one). See my previous post where I added an attachment for the icon numbers.

I know the block icons numbers 3 and 4 (non rotating), with the black lines on both side is used to display a two way valve.

Thanks Oreca, In fact in APL8, only two types of VlvMotl block icons were available (@PCS7TypicalsAPLV8). So I used VlvMotl10 from APL7 and it is working fine. -GJ
