Please tell me why batteries are used in S7 400(412-5H) ? In this CPU,we have a flash memory(8MB) too. What happens if the main power supply(24V) is lost ? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |

Hello rappaye; There are 2 kinds of memory card that are used in S7-400 system as Load memory: a RAM module and an EEPROM module. How can I get an overview of the S7-400 memory concept? https://support.industry.siemens.com/cs/ww/en/view/7302549 A RAM card requires battery support to maintain the program in memory. if the batteries fail and power is turned off, you will lose the program. You will have to download the complete hardware configuration and the program to the load memory to restart the CPU. A Flash EEPROM requires no outside power to maintain the program, so no batteries are required in your PS module. If you turn the CPU off and your program is on a Flash memory card, you will not lose the program, and the CPU will read it from the memory card when it restarts. Note that writing the program to a RAM card is simply a download, and can be done while the CPU is running. Writing the program to a Flash memory card requires that the cPU be in STOP mode, and you must use a menu item from Step 7, PLC >Load user program onto memory card. Hope this helps, Daniel Chartier |

Hello dear Rappaye According to the question posed Battery usage is required for several reasons: 1. Possibility to set up as Hot Restart (in the new series of Siemens CPUs, Due to the having Flashcard cold restart, work like MRES and it can clear all program values). 2. To reduce the "Self Test" time 3. To keep HW config after the restart 4. To keep Internal CPU Date and Time 5. To keep simulation values that adjusted in online mode Sincerely |
