Hello Krishna; That will depend on your process, basically the number of I/Os, the number of loops, the expected response time of the controller.... For a very small plant or uncomplicated process a network of S&-300 CPUs could do the job. But basically in Siemens Process Control System (PCS 7) only the S7-400 CPUs can be used as controllers. That would give you an idea of what Siemens would thionk on that subject.
